guest bathroom {remodel}

Hello! I am so proud of this guest bathroom remodel that I'm blogging about it and it takes a lot for me to take the extra time to blog after a project these days!

Kevin and I really worked more together on this room/project than any previous project/redo and I really feel like we are getting the hang of tearing stuff up and making it our kind of pretty :)

Most importantly, here is the finished project:

Can you really appreciate the finished product with out some good 'ol before and afters???
I hardly think so...

And just so you don't think this was a 2 day HGTV redo I'll throw in some progress pics that are between week 2 and month 2!
We actually finished this project faster than any other room we've redone... about 5 months from start to replacing the light switches (replacing the light switches typically takes us a whole year to decide it's finally worth the effort to do!).

The Top 3 things I love most about the new bathroom:

1. The bathtub is bigger! 2" higher and 2" wider, and it's amazing!
2. My custom barn wood mirror by Kelsey Farms... I felt like Joanna Gains for this remodel "let me just have my personal carpenter whip this up for me..."!
3. Everywhere I look, I'm reminded how skilled Kevin is at making what's in my head come to life!

Come visit, it's been a month now so I might rescind the "no bathroom use" restrictions - You're probably rolling your eyes, but the bathroom was perfectly pristine! I had to maintain that status for as long as possible!!!

i can see clearly now that the windows are gone

I can see clearly now that the windows are gone... well, at least the old windows are gone and now we have new windows!!!

We've needed them since we moved in, but frankly it's hard to spend so much money on a functional home improvement expense (rather than a pretty home improvement expense).
However, I'm in love! They are beautiful windows and the ability to open a window without using a can of hairspray to prop it so it stays open is ahhhmazing!

We'll start with least exciting to most exciting :)

Here's the upstairs bathroom before:

and after!

Here's our bedroom before:

Here's the dining room before:

Here's the family room before:

This big window in our family room didn't open before and now it does!
The added airflow has been really great with the weather being so nice lately!

Here's a close up of the new window header we put up in the family room and dining room (and will put in the kitchen at a later date) to add some architectural interest.

Even Callie has been loving the new windows
(sorry for the bad pic quality - phone camera)

What do you think? Pretty, right??!!
I'm working on sewing curtains now so stay tuned for that update!!!

cute ribbon pumpkin

I went to a brunch meeting on Saturday and they had these cute pumpkins as centerpieces

You just use stick pins to secure the ribbon in place

easy and cute!!!

great balls of... candy corn

I've really been in the mood to decorate with candy corn this fall. First I made this candy corn wreath and then I made this cool twig tree with hanging pumpkins and a candy corn filler and now I've added some great balls of fire candy corn to my decorations!

All I did was spray paint 2 styrofoam balls {black} and then used a hot glue gun to add candy corns to my heart's content!

I added black ribbon to cylinder vases to display my candy corn balls and it think they are neat-o!

Warning: with all these yummy decorations it is advised that you set out a bowl of candy corn to snack on so you and your guests do not start munching the decorations!!! haha!!!

{the house} gettin spiffied up for fall

Friday was the first day of the fall season and I was able to spend some time decorating the house for the new season!

First thing I did was make this cool twig tree.

Here's the supplies I used

1. Mini hanging pumpkins (the origional inspiration for this project, I got them at a garage sale earlier this year for $0.50)
2. A glass vase I already owned (also a past garage sale purchase)
3. Cool twig trees I picked up at Hobby Lobby for half price
4. Candy corn to use for vase filler (I love candy corn!)

I started by arranging the twigs in my vase

Then I added the candy corn to fill up the vase because I needed something to balance out the weight. With out a base filler, the twigs were too top heavy for the vase I was using.

Finally, I hung my cute pumpkins on the twig tree

I just love how it turned out!

I picked up some mini gourds from the farmers market for $0.25/each to add to my decorations

And hung a wreath in our picture window

And filled the candy jar with festive yogurt pretzels

Callie even got in the spirit and wore her fall sweater - so cute!

Our tree out front is already a mixture of red, yellow, brown, and green and the leaves are falling fast. I love living in a part of the world that has changing seasons!

Happy Fall!!!

chalkboard "like" turned "love"

I've liked the look of chalkboard paint for the several years it's been "in" in home decorating

The big thing lately is even to paint your fridge with chalkboard paint - which is totally awesome!

Tineke triggs contemporary dining room

but I strongly dislike writing with chalk... it makes me grind my teeth and cringe

Which brings us to this great solution... chalkbard markers!!!

Liquid Chalk - Works like a Marker Looks like Chalk - Set of 8 Classic Primary Colors

This type of marker writes like a marker, but looks like chalk - can somebody say halleluiah?!?!

This is perfect for me and now I'm looking for the perfect place in my house to add chalkboard paint!

Here's some more great inspiration:

Now do you see why instead of just liking the chalkboard paint look I LOVE IT!!!
