I saw this wreath idea in a magazine and I liked how it looked and it seemed simple enough for me to try (sorry I can't remember which magazine, I just tear the pages I like out and keep those in my project binder)!
I love how it turned out and it was easy to do!!!
I got the wreath for $4 from Hobby Lobby
(ignore the balls, they are for another project... stayed tuned for that ;)
The magazine had you wrap the wreath in black duck tape, but I didn't have any of that so instead I used some black spray paint I had on hand.
Then I set myself up at the kitchen table (with Season 1 of Mad Men on Netflix) and got to gluing.
I laid the candy corn out in a couple of different patterns before I picked the one I liked best and actually started gluing.

It took me 2 bags of candy corn to fill the top and sides and they cost me $1.50/bag. I was considering spraying a clear coat on to help preserve the wreath for longer, but when I tested it with a couple of extra candy corn, they just melted - so I would not recommend doing that step. :)
Then I just added some black ribbon and I was done! Again, I love how it turned out and it was pretty fun/relaxing to make. Perfect timing too, because the weather definately says "fall" today!

Super cute, but this would never work at our house. I'd want to eat it!
ReplyDeleteYeah I have done thsi wreath twice. Each time they have both lasted about 2 weeks. I live in Georgia and the weather in the fall will randomly be 80 degrees. The 2nd time I sprayed a clear coat of UV protective polyurathane. They both melted in the GA heat. I highly recommend this wreath for places up north or keep it inside...but it does turn out to be awesome for cheap!
ReplyDeleteHi! I love this idea and want to make it this weekend. I have a question though. Does the spray paint melt the Styrofoam wreath/form? I saw on Craft Wars that spray paint melts Styrofoam. Any experience with this? Thanks so much for the awesome idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI did not have any problem with the styrofoam melting. I painted outside and the black covers so well I didn't have to do a very heavy coat at all so that might have helped. Another idea might be to wrap the wreath in a black ribbon if you're too worried, but again, I didn't have any problems! Good luck!
